The 20 Reference Sites
These are the specific sites we studied to build the 10 selfLove.Yoga redesigns — a mix of the most-used yoga/wellness platforms, the highest-production-value athletic brands (for "what makes a site feel expensive"), and dynamic social/activity apps. Each one directly shaped at least one of the 10 concepts.
- 01Alo Moves / Alo Yoga — Magazine-editorial minimalism, black/white/neutral restraint, brand-first storytelling over hard-sell. Direct inspiration for Concept 01 (Editorial Luxury Minimal).
- 02Glo — Clean SaaS-wellness minimalism; the card-grid class library (thumbnail + duration + instructor + difficulty badge) that we reused for the LMS pattern across all 10 sites.
- 03Peloton — Dark, bold, community-first hero (real member stories, not stock photos); heavy class-filter system; trial-first pricing psychology.
- 04CorePower Yoga — Energetic orange/white palette, CTA-dense promo layout, rotating hero carousel. Direct inspiration for Concept 04 (High-Energy Sporty).
- 05YogaWorks (relaunched) — Now a pure digital app-style site with a warm cream palette and simple category grid — informed Concept 03 (Warm Cream Calm).
- 06Down Dog — Algorithmic/personalized practice generator instead of a static library; tech-product framing. Fed Concept 09 (Tech-Forward SaaS Dashboard).
- 07Gaia — Dark, cinematic, Netflix-style horizontal content carousels. Direct inspiration for Concept 02 (Dark Cinematic Streaming).
- 08Yoga With Adriene / Find What Feels Good — Personal-brand-first, warm and minimal, community over hard sell. Direct inspiration for Concept 08 (Personal Brand Warm).
- 09EkhartYoga (now YogaEasy) — The closest structural match to a real YTT school: Classes / Programs / Calendar / Academy navigation. Direct inspiration for Concept 10 (Boutique Studio Academy).
- 10Nike / Nike Training Club — Studied for what makes a site feel expensive: minimalist contrast, disciplined brand voice, full-width campaign photography.
- 11Equinox — Confident, restrained luxury copywriting and pricing gated behind a personalized flow rather than a bare rate card.
- 12SoulCycle — Candlelit, moody studio photography; booking treated as a persistent nav-level action, not a buried menu item.
- 13Barry's (Barry's Bootcamp) — Full-screen muted video hero, one disciplined accent color used everywhere — the production-value template we applied to every one of the 10 hero sections.
- 14Gymshark — Fashion-brand color-story naming and editorial content hub — studied for how a fitness brand extends beyond pure commerce.
- 15Whoop — Tech-premium dark UI, transparent tiered pricing dressed in "who this is for" storytelling rather than a bare table.
- 16ClassPass — Kinetic stacked-typography hero, transparent credit-based pricing grid — informed Concept 05 (Bento Grid Modern)'s confident type scale.
- 17Lululemon (Shop + Studio) — In-context lifestyle photography over studio-shot catalog images; seasonal color-story naming.
- 18Yoga International — Persistent trial-CTA header and interactive hover-preview navigation — a smaller, more direct "yoga school" comparable to selfLove.Yoga's actual scale.
- 19DoYogaWithMe — Leads with its free tier to build trust before showing paid membership — directly informed the Free/200hr/Advanced tier framing used across all 10 concepts' YTT page.
- 20Strava — Studied as a social-fitness reference (not yoga-specific) for dynamic activity feeds and community-driven UI patterns — the closest "social media" analog for how a class-community feed could eventually feel.
Booking/scheduling UX specifically (the spots-left, waitlist, and 1:1 appointment patterns used on every one of the 10 sites) was researched separately from Mindbody, Vagaro, Acuity Scheduling, Calendly, and Momence — full notes in critique.html.
